As followers of the teachings of Jesus, First United Methodist Church Modesto believes in and aspires to the values of love, inclusiveness, and respect for all people. We welcome and encourage all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, economic circumstance, religious tradition, or family structure, into full participation in all aspects of church life, from attending services to supporting mission and ministry work and taking positions of leadership. We are an open and affirming church and believe all people are created in the image of and loved equally by God.

God's Doors Are Always Open To All
"Building and Celebrating the LGBTIQ+ Community in Modesto"​
Around the world, the month of June is used as a time to celebrate the beauty and diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community and honor the many ways they have struggled for equality. As part of the mission declared in our Statement of Affirmation, Inclusion, and Welcome, we have been participating in various Pride events over the past several years to show our love and acceptance for all of God’s beloved children. Again this year, we are excited to display our rainbow-painted doors, highlighting our “Open Minds, Open Hearts, and Open Doors”! Check them out on the I Street side of our church building!
